The mission of the USC Upstate Foundation is to support the University of South Carolina Upstate in all of its educational, research, instructional, scientific, literary, service, charitable and outreach endeavors.
Chartered in 1973 as the Carolina Piedmont Foundation, and renamed in 2009, the USC Upstate Foundation exists to seek and accept gifts of charitable, benevolent, cultural and educational purposes for the exclusive benefit of the University.
Accredited as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the Foundation has raised or otherwise administered contributions, grants, bond funds and endowments totaling over $75 million, primarily for capital construction, laboratory, scholarship and endowment purposes.
University facilities made possible in whole or part by the Foundation include the Palmetto and Magnolia House Residence Halls, the G. B. Hodge Arena and other Spartan Athletics venues, the Susan Jacobs Arboretum, the Rotary International Peace Park, John M. Rampey Center, the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business & Economics, and numerous campus land acquisitions.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors oversees Foundation fundraising efforts, makes grants to the University for strategic initiatives and manages endowment and current funds totaling over $10 million.

On Friday, December 18, John Gramling II signed papers donating the final parcel of land
from his family to the University of South Carolina Upstate. This
transfer of land, which comprises the University’s opening gateway and
the International Rotary Peace Park along East Campus Boulevard, was
