Chartered on February 27, 1973, the USC Upstate Foundation, formerly the Carolina Piedmont Foundation, Inc., exists to accept gifts of charitable, benevolent, cultural and educational purposes for the exclusive benefit and use of the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Accredited as a non-profit organization under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the Foundation raises private funds for facilities and programs, administers scholarships and loan endowments, and supports USC Upstate public service activities.

Kathryn "Katie" P. Hicks and Dr. Lawrence E. "Larry" Roël donate lead gift for Arboretum Entrance 

It’s with love for the University that Kathryn "Katie" P. Hicks and her husband, Dr. Lawrence E. “Larry” Roël have committed the first significant lead gift to build and name the Hicks and Roël Arboretum Entrance.

The stone and brick structure will provide a place of entry to the 12-acre Arboretum, which also features the Roël Garden Pavilion, named for Dr. Roël, which was constructed in 2009. The $120,000 project will be completed through private funds.

Hubbell Lighting Scholars Program

 

The USC Upstate Foundation and Hubbell Lighting are proud to announce Rachael Kalchbrenner, a senior marketing major, has been awarded the first Hubbell Scholars Award for 2013. Kalchbrenner was an intern for Hubbell Lighting this summer and received a $1,000 scholarship for fall 2013. She will continue her work with the company.

The new Hubbell Scholars Program complements the Business Internship Course, #499. This course is an experiential learning opportunity offered by the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at USC Upstate. Its purpose is to supplement classroom instruction, link theory to practice, facilitate workplace understanding, and improve student employment opportunities following graduation.

USC Upstate’s Mary Black School of Nursing receives $350,000 in community support

Since January 2013 the Mary Black School of Nursing at the University of South Carolina Upstate has received $350,000 in private support to update and improve its simulation center. Included in the Carolina’s Promise capital campaign, these gifts help the university move ever closer to reaching its campaign goal of $50 million by 2017. The Mary Black School of Nursing recently received grants from The Fullerton Foundation, the J M Smith Foundation and other community supporters to help expand the Simulation Center in the Health Education Complex.
