Audition Requirements

The commercial music major at USC Upstate is a competitive, performance-based program that prepares students for success in the music industry. We are currently accepting students desiring to major in voice, guitar, piano, drum set, acoustic or electric bass, trumpet or the singer/songwriter track.

Each incoming student must schedule a live audition on campus. Students must prepare two contrasting songs showing proficiency on their primary instrument or voice plus one blues piece to show improvisation ability. Sight reading will also be required. If an accompaniment is needed, students may either bring sheet music for a staff pianist, or use background accompaniment tracks at the audition. Singers may not audition a cappella. There is a $10 fee for a staff pianist. Sheet music must be sent in advance.

Please contact Dr. Tricia Oney at (864) 503-5352 to schedule an audition. Students must also complete and submit a USC Upstate application.
Annual spring auditions are held the fourth Saturday in March.
