Mission
The mission of the Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery is to offer a broad range of cultural, conceptual, and technical exhibitions in the visual arts. The Gallery is a teaching model for the primary purpose of educating students to ideas and information that may be new or different from their previous experiences, while supporting the mission of the University. The activities of the Gallery include artist lecturers, workshops and demonstrations, written documentation in support of exhibitions, scholarly research, visual art performers, art educators and field research. Gallery activities are presented in an effort to offer an understanding of the discipline of art, the relationship of art to life, and the role art plays in history and society as pertaining to the educated individual. Each year the Gallery showcases the work of the graduating seniors in the visual arts program giving them an opportunity to present undergraduate research in a public setting. The Gallery includes hands-on working opportunities for students to assist in the operational features of the Gallery as an educational experience while gaining applied training.
