Caen, France

Located in northwestern France just 6 miles inland from the English Channel, the city of Caen is capital of the French province of Normandy. It is nestled in the heart of a region filled with history and many interesting sites for tourists.  With over 100,000 inhabitants, Caen is known for its historical buildings constructed during the reign of William the Conqueror.

Founded in 1432 by the English king Henry VI, the University of Caen historically housed five academic colleges including arts, canon law, civil law, theology, and medicine.  Today, the Université de Caen-Basse Normandie has more than 25,000 students, 1300 research and instructional personnel, 11 research entities, 6 institutes, an engineering school, and 2 professional schools.   Located on a green campus considered to be one of the most desirable in France, the university offers many opportunities for learning including numerous sports and cultural activities.  Its location in the green countryside of northern France with its close proximity to Paris and London, just across the Channel, makes the University of Caen an exciting destination for travel and study abroad.
