Nursing Alumni Trip to EcuadorMay 18-28, 2012Nursing alumni, with an interest in gaining a better perspective of nursing from a global or international level, are invited to travel to Ecuador this May with Julie Moss, APRN, FNP-C, RN, Ph.D. Through visits to private, public and government healthcare systems – and even a jungle hospital – participants will not only fulfill CEU requirements, but will also appreciate and understand serving health care needs, from major metropolitan cities like Quito, to remote areas like Shell. Spouses of alumni are welcome but children cannot be accommodated. A valid U.S. passport and travel immunizations are required, as is the ability to walk moderate distances at altitudes of 10,000 feet. Building Bridges of Cultural Understanding with “Grits and Rice” May 2-22, 2012Anyone with an interest in the fastest growing world power, exotic places, ancient culture and beautiful scenery will want to pack their bags immediately for this fabulous trip planned to China. Dubbed the “Grits and Rice” trip, it will be led by Dr. David Marlow, associate professor of linguistics, and will be hosted by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Embodying the desire to promote friendships between Southeastern China and Southeastern United States, the trip will focus on Chinese business and culture – with three weeks full of opportunities to connect people from both sides of the globe. Whether you want to take advantage of an ideal opportunity to enhance language skills, focus on business, or just experience a rich and different culture, there is no better place than China. Two trips will be offered -- one for 12 days, the other for 21 days -- and they are open to students, alumni and friends of USC Upstate. Andiamo a Sicilia! October 19-28, 2012Let’s go to Sicily, alumni! The Center for International Studies is pleased to announce a 10-day trip to Sicily this fall for alumni and friends of USC Upstate. Led by Dr. Catherine Canino, the “Crossroads of Sicily” trip includes a castle tour led by a countess, visits to 12th century cathedrals, and tours of the temples of Juno, Hercules and Jupiter. Stroll through museums, boutiques and cafes, learn to make ricotta cheese, and visit architecture treasures rivaling those of Athens. Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Greek theatre, public gardens, vineyards, citrus groves and fishing villages. Cities on the itinerary include Palermo, Monreale, Cefalu, Agrigento, Catania, Siracusa, and Taormina, with an optional four-night post-tour extension to Malta.
