Mike Bruce '77
A native of the Upstate, Mike Bruce graduated from then USCS in 1977 with a degree in business, marketing and criminal justice (BGS). Before attending USCS, Mike enlisted in the Navy. After serving his country in the Vietnam War, Mike returned to the Roebuck area and enrolled as a non-traditional Student.
One of Mike’s fondest memories was watching the school mature into a four year university in 1975. Shortly after graduating, Mike began working for the university. He served as police chief for twenty years and is currently employed as the risk manager, a job he has held for five years. While Mike praises all of his former professors, Dr. Babin, Dr. Edmonds, Dr. Bowman, Dr. Davis and Dr. Ulmer made a lasting impression on him.
The value of an education is a philosophy also shared by Mike’s wife Deborah and his two sons, Myers and William. Deborah is the principal at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. Myers is a senior at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, majoring in chemistry, and William is dual enrolled at Dorman High School and Spartanburg Methodist College. Mike is a member of Roebuck Baptist Church and he also serves on the alumni board at SCC. When he is not working, Mike enjoys gardening or fishing.
