“Friday Focus” with guest speaker Elaine Marshall
The Center for Nonprofit Leadership at the University of South Carolina Upstate will continue its monthly nonprofit information lunch series “Friday Focus” with guest speaker Elaine Marshall on August 15 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Anyone with an interest in nonprofit organizations, including board members, volunteers, employees and other interested parties, is invited to attend. Participants are asked to bring their own bag lunch to the event, to be held at the Community Education and Outreach Center, 325 S. Church St. in Spartanburg. Reservations are not necessary. Starting at noon, Marshall, director of sponsored awards with USC Upstate, will discuss seeking and securing grants. “The session will address the three main components of grants work: research, preparing proposals and successful submission,” says Marshall. She adds that because more and more of the grants process is going online, she will discuss Internet resources for the three components of the process. In addition to providing monthly educational programs and networking opportunities for area nonprofits, USC Upstate’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership offers a Bachelor of Arts in Nonprofit Administration, the only university or college in South Carolina offering this degree. The degree prepares graduates for careers in management and administrative positions within a wide variety of nonprofit organizations such as social services, youth activities, health, the environment and the arts. Contact Dr. Theresa Ricke-Kiely, director of USC Upstate’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership, for further information at tricke-kiely@uscupstate.edu or by calling (864) 503-5754.
