The Department of Learning Technologies is proud to partner with the Office of Distance Education to provide support to all faculty teaching distance education courses. As
a result of this partnership, faculty can earn official certification for completing the Teaching Online course offered periodically each academic year. The course includes
best practices in course design, course planning and management, using the Blackboard environment; as well as other pertinent considerations like effective online pedagogy, universal design, copyright, tools for engaging students and other. The webcourse is hosted in Blackboard and includes readings, presentations, and conversations. Tasks and assignments offer participants the opportunity to work on designing a course to apply key concepts and receive feedback prior to implementation.
Effective August 15, 2011, all newly hired faculty must receive this certification prior to teaching an online course. This new policy was established by Academic Affairs with implementation by the Office of Distance Education and partner departments.
