Outlook Live E-mail & Calendar

After you are accepted to the University, you should receive a data sheet with your USC Upstate e-mail account information, including instructions for how to set up your password. Your email address will take the form of yourusername@email.uscupstate.edu. Make sure you keep checking it; this is the address your professors have on file. Other departments, such as Financial Aid and the Cashier's Office, also use this address for official communications. You can quickly access your Upstate e-mail by logging in at email.uscupstate.edu.

The Live@Edu student e-mail isn’t just for sending and receiving e-mail to faculty and staff at the University. Your account can be used to collaborate with your classmates on projects by setting appointments, inviting them to meet with you, and prioritize what’s important. There are functionalities that allow you set up folders so that when you receive e-mail from a particular professor you are notified via SMS on your cell phone.

Did you know your USC Upstate e-mail account has a 10 GB inbox? That's bigger than your Gmail inbox! You also have the ability to send 20 MB attachments to other USC Upstate students through their school address. There is even an instant messenger client built right in to your inbox.

Skydrive

Skydrive allows you to save your files so that you can access them anywhere. You receive 7 GB of storage to store you documents, photos, and videos. With the sharing feature, you are able to set access to where others can read and edit a file you are working on. With the Groups function within Skydrive, you can share a particular documents, show and send email messages  with the member of particular project you are working on all in the same window.

You can login to your Skydrive directly at skydrive.live.com, or by simply clicking the link at the top of your student e-mail account.

OneNote

OneNote is a digital notebook that allows you to bring together all of your text, video and audio recordings, pictures, and digital handwriting. It’s great for collaborating with others to do research on projects. The search capability allows you to easily search through the notes and information that you’ve collected. With to-do lists, URL tagged information, and lots of other functionalities, OneNote can be used to increase your productivity by keeping everything you’ve collected in one place.

Mobile Integration

A lot of what you do in Live@Edu can be used on your mobile device. You can have your mail pushed to your cell phone whether it has 3G or not. Microsoft has apps on multiple mobile operating systems. OneNote and Skydrive have mobile apps that allow you to view and edit documents. Your calendar can be added to your phone so that you can schedule your life.

Office Apps

Within Mail and Skydrive, you can create new Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote documents. The web apps have the basic formatting options of the Microsoft Office programs. The web apps allow you to view and share the documents in real time. It saves you the hassle of saving then attaching to an email, only then to download and edit it again. You can also choose to easily open the documents in your Microsoft Office program or you can just save it to your Skydrive.

Messaging

Messaging with classmates lets you instantly send messages to people. When signing in, you can show up as away or busy. Multiple people can chat about a project. Like other instant messaging programs you can see when your friends sign on and off.
