Your USC Upstate Live@Edu account isn't just an e-mail address! Microsoft's Windows Live suite is a collection of Web applications, services, and programs you can download freely. Here's a few of the many useful parts of Live@Edu.
Outlook Live E-mail
By now, you've probably all used your USC Upstate e-mail account. Make sure you keep checking it; this is the address your professors have on file. Other departments, such as Financial Aid and the Cashier's Office, also use this address for official communications. You can quickly access your Upstate e-mail by logging in at email.uscupstate.edu. If you haven't logged in before and need help, here is a how-to video.
Did you know your USC Upstate e-mail account has a 10 GB inbox? That's bigger than your Gmail inbox! You also have the ability to send 20 MB attachments to other USC Upstate students through their school address. There is even an instant messenger client built right in to your inbox.
You can also get your student e-mail on your Blackberry, iPhone, or other smartphone device.
Skydrive gives you 25 GB of online file storage; store, access, and share your files with friends and classmates, from anywhere online. You set the passwords and you decide who sees what, so you have confidence that your data is in your control. You can access your files with virtually any Web-enabled computer or mobile device—whether it’s yours, a friend’s, or a public computer. Uploading content is as easy as dragging and dropping the files from your computer onto the Web.
Working on a project with classmates, co-workers, or family? With shared folders, the whole crew can upload, download, and collaborate with you on documents and other files. Each folder on SkyDrive has a unique Web address, so you can save the link as a favorite or copy-and-paste it into e-mail or other documents for direct access.
You can login to your Skydrive directly at skydrive.live.com, or by simply clicking the link at the top of your student e-mail account.
Office Live Workspaces
Office Live Workspaces is an online storage place where you can save, access, and share documents (such as Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and files. Online collaboration and sharing is easy with your classmates– just look them up in your address book and you can invite them to your workspace. You decide if they can edit or simply review. You can access your workspace from any computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser at office.live.com.
If you already have Microsoft Office installed on your computer, you can download the Office Live add-in to make uploading and downloading to your workspace even easier.
Spaces is your place on the Web to express yourself. You can add a blog, photos, videos, and lots of other modules and gadgets. Spaces has a variety of themes you can choose from, or take the time to hand-select each color and font yourself. Just like Skydrive, you can control who sees what on your Space.
If you are interested in giving Spaces a go, be sure to try Microsoft's award-winning blog software, Windows Live Writer. It can give your blog some polish, but maintains a familiar, Word-like interface. Spaces is available at spaces.live.com, or just click the Spaces link at the top of your student e-mail.
