Lead Gift Announced for Arboretum EntranceIt’s with love for the University that P. Kathryn "Katie" Hicks and her husband, Dr. Lawrence E. “Larry” Roël have committed the first significant lead gift to build and name the Hicks and Roël Arboretum Entrance.The stone and brick structure will provide a place of entry to the 12-acre Arboretum, which also features the Roël Garden Pavilion, named for Dr. Roël, which was constructed in 2009. The $120,000 project will be completed through private funds.J M Smith Foundation's Leadership Gift Supports the Mary Black School of NursingThe University of South Carolina Upstate Foundation recently received a leadership gift from the J M Smith Foundation that will enable the Mary Black School of Nursing Simulation Center to purchase technology equipment to help achieve the goal of becoming the Simulation Center of Teaching Excellence in the Upstate of South Carolina.
J M Smith Foundation Receives Gold Dome AwardThe J M Smith Foundation has been presented with the Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Gold Dome Award for its sincere loyalty and commitment to USC Upstate. This award is the highest honor presented by the university to business and community leaders and organizations that recognize the potential of its future.USC Upstate Capital Campaign Announces Major Gift To Establish Distinguished Lecture SeriesThe lecture series, named for Dr. John B. Edmunds, Jr., will feature important scholars from around the world who will examine significant issues in history, political science, philosophy, American studies, or religion.
Roël Contributes to Watershed Ecology CenterOn a recent summer day, board certified ophthalmologist Dr. Lawrence E. Roël joined campers at the Discover Science Camp, a camp run by the Watershed Ecology Center. Imagine the children’s surprised reactions to learn he would lead them as they dissected a cow’s eyeball!
