Dear Friends of USC Upstate,
The advent of the Health Education Complex is very exciting. You have heard for years that the University of South Carolina Upstate is overcrowded, has the highest space utilization in the State, and the lowest square footage per full-time student in the State. This 150,000 square foot building will help ease a critical space shortage, not only for the Mary Black School of Nursing and the School of Education, but also create expansion and relocation opportunities for the growing College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration and Economics, and Student Affairs.
The wellness/fitness center – including a pool with competitive and lane swimming, racquetball and basketball courts, running track, climbing wall, and aerobics facilities – will provide first-rate recreation, exercise, and instructional and research opportunities for the campus community.
The Mary Black School of Nursing and the School of Education will move into first-rate new quarters offering wonderful opportunities for innovation, expansion and collaboration.
Enrollment Services will be able to optimize its services to students with admissions, financial aid and registration conveniently placed in one remarkable facility. And the USC Upstate Bookstore will occupy new quarters.
Creative financing through institutional bonds have provided the $20 million construction cost of the facility. However, equipment and furnishings must be provided with privately raised funds. Four million dollars is needed to provide modern and advanced teaching equipment, technology and furnishings for the complex.
The Health Education Complex will be a singular asset for the University as it continues to grow, contributing more and more to the human and economic development of the Upstate. We must count on our community to pitch in and help as this project is develops.
Thank you in advance for your commitment and support.
