Cancelled!! Elie Wiesel Lecture Broadcast at USC Upstate
To clarify much confusion about the USC Religious Studies broadcast of Elie Wiesel’s lecture on September 12, please note that the broadcast at USC Upstate has been cancelled due to contractual restrictions. The lecture will still take place at 7:30 p.m. in Columbia so travel is required. However, tickets to hear Wiesel live at the Koger Center have been sold out so the Colonial Center has been engaged for overflow attendees. The lecture will be shown live via satellite on the large Jumbotron screens. Tickets are not required for Colonial Center seating.

USC Upstate Students Retrace Adventures of Odysseus and Aeneas
It’s one thing to learn history from books and see the wonders of the world in photographs. It’s another thing to see the wonders of the world in person, walk in the footsteps of historic figures, and follow the actual routes of famous literary figures. On the annual honors “Maymester in the Mediterranean” trip to Europe, 40 USC Upstate honors students were able to see many of the sights they had studied, and understand and appreciate how the architecture, artwork, natural wonders, and culture of those countries influenced the literature they produced. This year’s trip took the students on a 15 day tour that recreated Homer’s Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid. Ports-of-call and daytrips included stops in Athens, Turkey, the Greek Islands (Rhodes, Cyprus, Mykonos), Santorini, Delphi, Sicily, Taormina, Syracuse, Messina, Sorrento, Isle of Capri and Rome. For more on Catherine Canino’s very special tour, read on …
