Spartanburg, S.C. – Dr. Catherine Canino, an associate professor of English at the University of South Carolina Upstate, has been invited to conduct a series of lectures at the Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM in Milan, Italy. While in Milan from February 17 – 28, Canino will lecture on topics including Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and The Merchant of Venice.
Having taught for seven years in the Department of Languages, Literature and Composition at USC Upstate, Dr. Canino specializes in the areas of Shakespeare and the English and Italian Renaissance periods. Her articles appear in scholarly journals, and she has recently published a book with Cambridge University Press entitled Shakespeare and the Nobility: the Negotiation of Lineage.
In addition to lecturing at IULM, USC Upstate’s partner university in Italy, Canino will also visit affiliate universities in both Milan and Florence to explore further literary research interests and possible future study options. Active in the international community, Canino conducts an annual honors travel program to Europe and hopes to develop a literary study program in Sicily. She received her Ph.D. from Arizona State University.
