Spartanburg, S.C. - High school and college students will have an opportunity to explore the field of mass communications and journalism when the Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate hosts its first Media Day on Saturday, November 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Campus Life Center Ballroom.
The event begins with a panel discussion of local media experts who will discuss trends in the media field, what media practitioners do, how students can break into the field and ways to be successful in the industry. The panel discussion will be followed by break-out sessions with professionals in the areas of television, public relations and advertising, electronic media, print media, new media, etc. Attendees will also be given a tour of the department and be able to meet with members of the USC Upstate admissions team.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity to area high school students and to current USC Upstate students who are interested in pursuing a degree in media studies,” said Cassandra Mitchell, an instructor of journalism at USC Upstate. “Not only will the participants have a chance to learn more about the degree program that we offer but they will also be able to talk directly to experts in their areas of interest.”
