Dr. Warren Carson Named Chief Diversity Officer at USC Upstate
Spartanburg, S.C. - Dr. Warren Carson, professor of English and chair of the Languages, Literature and Composition Department at the University of South Carolina Upstate, was appointed the university’s Chief Diversity Officer on September 1, 2008 by Chancellor John Stockwell. He is assuming the duties previously performed by Leon Wiles, who left USC Upstate to become Clemson University’s CDO.
Carson’s responsibilities include directing and overseeing the university’s diversity agenda, focusing on the hiring and retaining of more minority faculty and senior staff members. He is also charged with maintaining a campus climate supportive of minority professionals and students.
In his 25 year career at USC Upstate, Carson has chaired the Diversity Task Force and the Diversity Advisory Committee. His new responsibilities as Chief Diversity Officer are in addition to his academic responsibilities.
