Spartanburg, S.C. -
A seven-piece jazz combo comprised of students and faculty from the University of South Carolina Upstate’s jazz program will visit band students at Spartanburg High School on Friday, April 10 at 8:30 a.m.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the high school students to learn about the musical opportunities that are available at USC Upstate,” said Dr. Gregg Akkerman, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies at USC Upstate. “Our combo will perform for the band students and then answer questions they may have about the existing jazz program, the new commercial music program, and life at the University.”
Faculty musicians joining Dr. Akkerman include Dr. Doug Scarborough, assistant professor of music; Vern Weygandt, adjunct instructor of music; and Adam Knight, adjunct instructor of music. Four students will complete the combo.
