Spartanburg, S.C. - Due to inclement weather, USC Upstate will open at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010. Even when classes are scheduled, students and employees are urged to use their best judgment to determine if traveling to campus will present a safety hazard.
The Governor has the sole authority to excuse state employees from reporting to work during extreme weather or other emergency conditions. Unless the Governor issues a Declaration of Emergency, employees are expected to report for work.
Campus Streets and Walkways
Landscape Services worked removing snow and ice today (Sunday). With the temperatures rising and sun out, they were able to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots throughout campus. Other than a few shaded areas, the ice and snow melted well. However, Mr. Bruce Suddeth, Director of Landscape Services advises that we still have a few isolated ice patches at the Admin Portico and entrances to the Tukey Theatre , Hodge Building, north side), Smith Circle, CLC, north entry, and HEC North Campus Blvd entrance.
Landscape Services has done their best to apply ice melt in these areas and hopefully it will begin to work. Please be advised that some interior sidewalks and steps located in shady areas still retain ice on them as well. Moreover, the sidewalk adjacent to the north entrance of the HEC (off of North Campus Blvd) is solid ice. As such, the scrape blade would not penetrate. One other note of caution; there is still some ice accumulation on the westbound off ramp of Highway 585 at East Campus Blvd.
Please use caution when traversing these areas. Landscape services willl continue to work on these few problem areas early Monday morning.
