Spartanburg, S.C. - The National Pan Hellenic Council of the University of South Carolina Upstate will be sponsoring a Step Show on February 19 at 9:00 p.m. in the G.B. Hodge Center.
The following fraternities are signed up to compete in this judged competition: Alpha Phi Alpha (Clemson University), Phi Beta Sigma (Johnson C. Smith University), Iota Phi Theta (USC Columbia). Participating sororities are: Alpha Kappa Alpha (Appalachian State), Delta Sigma Theta (USC Upstate) and Zeta Phi Beta (Georgia Southern University). $1,000 prizes will be given to the best fraternity and sorority. DJ “D Dubb” and DJ “2Much” will assist the teams with music and the evening’s host will be Jason Anderson.
Advance tickets are being sold at the Student Life Office in the Campus Life Center and at the Humanities and Performing Arts Center Box Office. Tickets are $5 in advance, or $10 at the door, for USC Upstate students. A limited quantity of advance tickets remain. For all others, tickets are $7 in advance and $12 at the door. Greeks, with proof of Greek affiliation, will be admitted for $5. Proceeds from ticket sales will be going toward Haiti relief efforts.
Held throughout the country on college campuses, this traditional African-American dance form incorporates elements of military drills, cheerleading, martial arts, acrobatics, hip hop, tap dancing, and call and response. And it’s a chance for Greek fraternities and sororities to show off their dance moves before a crowd and each other.
