Spartanburg, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Upstate’s Club Art and Design sponsored a trip to Washington D.C. from March 9 - 14. Thirteen students joined faculty members Dr. Henry Fagen and Judith Battaglia in the nation’s capitol, touring major art galleries and national landmarks. During their six day stay, the group visited the National Gallery of Art, The Museum of American Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Hirshorn, the Corcoran Gallery, the Phillips Collection and the Renwick Gallery, the Native American Museum and the Freer and Sackler Galleries.
One of the trip’s many highlights was a visit to the historic U.S. Capitol building. Students witnessed the House of Representatives calling for a quorum with a discussion of the bill to impeach a federal judge from Louisiana, followed by a visit with Congressman Bob Inglis on the Capitol Steps.
