Spartanburg, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Upstate has partnered with Blossman Gas to lease two propane-powered Encore lawn mowers for its Landscape Services Department. The propane mowers are the first of their kind to be used by the department as part of a university-wide sustainability initiative.
“For a variety of reasons the propane mowers are an attractive addition to our inventory of 13 commercial-grade mowers,” says Bruce Suddeth, director of Landscape Services. “These mowers produce less greenhouse gases than gas-powered mowers, they require less frequent refueling, the engines will last three times longer than gas powered engines, and the mowers are less expensive to operate than gas powered mowers.”
With six soccer fields, three baseball fields, two large quads, an arboretum and multiple green spaces on the 330-acre campus, Suddeth says these new mowers, powered by Briggs & Stratton engines with zero-turn mid-mount 61-inch deck units, will be an environmentally responsible and fiscally efficient addition to Landscape Services. USC Upstate is now one of four universities in the Spartanburg/Greenville/I-85 corridor that are leasing propane lawn mowing equipment through partnerships with Blossman Gas.
