USC Upstate Holds Youth Summer Drama Camp

Spartanburg, S.C. - A Youth Summer Drama Camp will be held at the University of South Carolina Upstate the weeks of June 14-18 and June 21-25 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for ages eight to 18 (second grade through senior year). The camps include drama games, warm ups, scene work, mask making, theatrical makeup, lighting and scene painting.

At the end of the second week campers in 2nd - 6th grades will perform the play Stuart Little and campers in 7th – 12th grade will perform the play Searching for David’s Heart.  Campers who wish to participate in the plays, must attend camp for both weeks. Rehearsal times for the plays are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Campers who wish to attend camp for one week only, will participate from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for drama games, warm ups, individual scene work, theatrical makeup, lighting and scene painting.

Rich Robinson, associate professor of theatre and director of the Theatre for Youth program at USC Upstate, will direct and coordinate the camp along with two USC Upstate students. This is Robinson’s 12th year directing a youth summer camp and his 8th year of directing such a camp in Spartanburg.
