Spartanburg, S.C. – Spartanburg Mayor Bill Barnet will be on the campus of the University of South Carolina Upstate on Monday, October 30, 2006 to address students in the American Humanics Student Association at 1:00 p.m. in Academic Annex 2, room 201. Barnet will discuss leadership and community involvement. He will also lead a question and answer session.

“We are excited to have the mayor speak to the class,” says Dr. Theresa Ricke-Kiely, director of USC Upstate’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership. “He has a wealth of knowledge about our community and will be an inspiration to the students to make a difference in their communities.”

The American Humanics Student Association (AHSA) at USC Upstate affords students excellent opportunities for leadership development and for putting into practice the skills learned in the nonprofit courses offered at the university. AHSA also serves as a resource for the community as its members engage in a variety of worthwhile projects with numerous nonprofit organizations.

The AHSA at USC Upstate is affiliated with the American Humanics Association, a national nonprofit organization that collaborates with affiliated colleges and universities and nonprofit agencies to recruit, prepare and place students in meaningful nonprofit careers.
