SouthEastern Conference On Linguistics LXXX
Teaching Undergraduate Language and Linguistics and African American English in Education and Society

The University of South Carolina Upstate is excited to host the SouthEastern Conference on Linguistics (SECOL) LXXX (80)* in beautiful Spartanburg, South Carolina! SECOL LXXX will be held April 4-6, 2013 at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics, which is approximately 20 minutes from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (GSP). This website will help you learn more about the conference as you prepare to join us.
This year's conference will feature the dual themes of Language in Undergraduate Teaching and African American English in Education and Society. Conference co-hosts are Michael Montgomery of the University of South Carolina, and David Marlow of USC Upstate.
SECOL is dedicated to the advancement of the study of language in all its aspects. The annual spring conference provides a venue for SECOL members to read and discuss scholarly papers. The Southern Journal of Linguistics (SJL) publishes book reviews and peer reviewed articles. The SECOL newsletter is published in October, January, and May.
As per the SECOL Constitution, meetings are held in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the Islands of the Caribbean. *SECOL LXXX participants will receive a $40 reduction in registration fees thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor who supports the dual themes of the conference and the overall vision of SECOL. Conference participants who have already paid their registration can either receive a $40 reimbursement or apply this amount to next year's SECOL membership fees.
