Frances Jarratt-Hortis
Director of Counseling Services
Frances has a B.A. from Furman University and a M.Ed. in Counseling from Clemson University. She has worked at USC Upstate for over 20 years.
Born in Rhode Island on February 29th (yes, every four years it exists), she moved around the United States before settling in SC where she has lived for over 25 years. She enjoys gardening, singing, photography, walking, above all laughter and reads at least one book each week.
Dr. George Jones
Assistant Director of Counseling Services
Dr. Jones earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Florida Institute of Technology. He has worked in a number of clinical settings beginning with the director of a psychological testing lab, director of outpatient services with mental health, assistant professor at Clemson University, and an adjunct faculty at Webster University and has been in private practice in Greenville, S.C. since 1993. He enjoys conducting psychological assessments and teaching. Dr. Jones' knowledge and expertise extends to research, a topic on which he has presented at both regional and national conferences. He has a strong interest in diversity and has made several presentations at conferences on the impact of differences on the therapeutic relationship. He has also done work with organizations helping them become more culturally competent. His most recent work experience was in the Clemson University counseling center where for over sixteen years he served as associate director. Dr. Jones has a passion for working with students and loves helping them find their way through the maze of life.
David Calvin
Counselor
David has worked as a full-time counselor at USC Upstate for the past 7 years. Born in Pittsburgh, David completed his undergraduate studies at Duquesne University, earning a B.A. in Philosophy. He moved on to Buffalo, New York to begin graduate work in theology and ministry.
Upon leaving the seminary, David worked in a variety of human service settings before returning to graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling with a special emphasis in Family Systems Therapy. Hiking, photography, ecology, music and dance are just some of David's interests.
Ellen Towler
Counselor
Ellen has a B.A. from Vanderbilt and a M.S. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She has worked at USC Upstate for 12 years with a focus on stress reduction, energy psychology and personal development.
She grew up in Aiken, S.C. and enjoys gardening, yoga, massage therapy and walking.
Jules Pitts
Counselor
Jules earned a BA in Sociology from Arizona State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Montana. She is a Licensed Addiction Counselor and certified Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist.
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Jules has lived many places and enjoys the diversity and excitement that each new city and region brings. Her interests include spending time with family, reading, equestrian sports, and animals.
CeCe Allison
Administrative Assistant
After several years of working in the financial services industry, CeCe found a new home at USC Upstate as the Administrative Assistant for Counseling Services. Originally from South Carolina, CeCe has lived in places such as Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri and Maryland. She has degrees in both Business Administration and Computer Science. Some of her interests include cooking, traveling, music, and sports.
