Counseling Staff 

Dr. George Jones, Assistant Director of Counseling Services 
 
George JonesDr. Jones earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Florida Institute of Technology. He has worked in a number of clinical settings beginning with the director of a psychological testing lab, director of outpatient services with mental health, assistant professor at Clemson University, and an adjunct faculty at Webster University and has been in private practice in Greenville, S.C. since 1993. He enjoys conducting psychological assessments and teaching. Dr. Jones' knowledge and expertise extends to research, a topic on which he has presented at both regional and national conferences. He has a strong interest in diversity and has made several presentations at conferences on the impact of differences on the therapeutic relationship. He has also done work with organizations helping them become more culturally competent. His most recent work experience was in the Clemson University counseling center where for over sixteen years he served as associate director. Dr. Jones has a passion for working with students and loves helping them find their way through the maze of life.



David Calvin, Counselor and Non-Traditional Student Advocate 
 
calvin davidDavid has worked as a full-time counselor at USC Upstate for the past 7 years. Born in Pittsburgh, David completed his undergraduate studies at Duquesne University, earning a B.A. in Philosophy. He moved on to Buffalo, New York to begin graduate work in theology and ministry. Upon leaving the seminary, David worked in a variety of human service settings before returning to graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling with a special emphasis in Family Systems Therapy. Hiking, photography, ecology, music and dance are just some of David's interests.  
 


Erin Morgan, Coordinator of Alcohol & Drug Education Programs and Counselor 
 
erin_morganErin has a BA in Psychology and a M.Ed. in Counseling from Clemson University. She is also a National Certified Counselor and a distance Certified Counselor. After working at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System for 5+ years, Erin found a home at USC Upstate on January 31, 2005. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Erin moved around the US during her childhood before settling in SC where she has now lived for about 17 years. She also enjoys reading, singing, traveling, shoes, and the outdoors. 
 

 

Ellen Towler, Counselor, Yoga Instructor and Non-Traditional Student Advocate 
 
ellen towlerEllen has a B.A. from Vanderbilt and a M.S. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She has worked at USC Upstate for 12 years with a focus on stress reduction, energy psychology and personal development. She grew up in Aiken, S.C. and enjoys gardening, yoga, massage therapy and walking.
