Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Information
Health Services is pleased to announce the scheduling of the Annual Flu Campaign! Remember, vaccination remains the best defense against the flu. There is a limited amount of flu vaccine still available on a “first-come, first-served basis,” while supplies last.
Additionally, DHEC issued a Health Advisory on 1/3/2012, regarding a novel strain of influenza virus. At this point in time, a pandemic is not expected, as occurred two years ago. Anyone with concerns regarding influenza symptoms or desiring the most current information regarding this viral infection should be directed to the SC DHEC website www.scdhec.gov or www.cdc.gov for updates.
In addition to the regular Seasonal Influenza Vaccine for students and employees, we have initial offerings of two other vaccines this year:
- High-Dose Influenza Vaccine (Fluzone HighDose) for those 65+ years old
- Pneumonia (Pneumovax) Vaccine for those of all ages 18+ years old with chronic health conditions (asthma, COPD, diabetes, etc.), as well as seniors 65+ years old
Every effort has been made to contain the costs of these vaccines through discounted pricing. We are very pleased that we now have the ability to scan Carolina Cash Cards to cover the cost of fee-for-service expenses in Health Services, in addition to accepting cash or payments by check! We are not yet equipped to process credit and debit cards. Likewise, Health Services is not an "in-network provider" for any group health insurance plan, and does not currently file Medicare claims. Regrettably, we cannot provide these services to dependents of students and employees.
Please call Health Services (503-5191) to schedule your appointment or if you have questions.
