Director, Fitness & Campus Recreation

Mark Ritter began his college career at Iowa State University in Biology but soon realized that Campus Recreation was his calling and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Leisure Studies.

Mark then went on to graduate school and holds a Master’s Degree in Leisure Systems Management from East Carolina University. Upon leaving East Carolina, Mark’s first professional position was as a Coordinator of Intramurals at The University of Texas at Austin. There he was responsible for programming intramural team sports and training officials.

He soon moved on to Texas A&M University in College Station. While with the Aggies, he was a Coordinator for Intramural Sports. He was then promoted to Assistant Director for Intramurals and later as an Assistant Director for Facilities in charge of Specials Events and the Weight Room.

He is currently working on a Ph. D in Education Administration at TAMU. After 10 and a half years in Aggieland, Mark found a position as Director of Campus Recreation at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. In this position he was able to open a new facility and create a comprehensive Campus Recreation Department comprised of Intramurals, Group Fitness, Sport Clubs, and Outdoor Recreation.

Mark arrived in Spartanburg in the fall of 2008 to open the Wellness Center and build the Campus Recreation program at USC Upstate.
