WSPA Collaboration Launches

USC Upstate and WSPA-TV Newschannel 7 launch a special partnership to spotlight this very important era in the University’s history. Tune in each Monday and Tuesday at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to see one-minute vignettes featuring achievements and success stories of USC Upstate. Your Carolina features a live interview each month. Emmy award winning Pamela Graham serves as the producer and lead talent of this project. On YouTube

February 2017:
Class of 1969 Reunion Luncheon

A reunion luncheon of first graduating class of the nursing program brings together longtime friends and presents a glimpse of how much nursing has evolved since 1967 when they first entered the program.

50th Anniversary Kick-Off at Founders' Day

The 50th Anniversary Celebration kicked off at the annual Founders’ Day event at The Piedmont Club, which pays tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in support of the University and played a vital role in enriching the legacy of USC Upstate

May 2017:
May Commencement

Nearly 900 students received their degrees on the beautiful campus of USC Upstate. Each graduate received a commemorative 50th Anniversary medallion for the tassel. William “Bill” Cobb ’74 delivered the commencement address and Thomas Young, III received an honorary doctorate.

June 2017:
50th Anniversary Mural Unveiling

512 East Main Street, Spartanburg

A specially designed mural to commemorate the University’s founding, rich history and vibrant future was unveiled in downtown Spartanburg. The mural, located one block from the intersection of East Main Street and Pine Street, is sure to become a photo destination. Mural

Visit the USC Upstate campus and take part in the engaging selfie station photo contest. Explore the 300-acre campus while taking photos at iconic locations.

Fall 2017 Semester Begins

USC Upstate becomes a hub of activity as student and faculty return to campus in anticipation of the fall semester beginning on Thursday, Aug. 24.

September 2017:
Spartanburg Herald-Journal Releases USC Upstate Magazine

Spartanburg Herald-Journal debuts a magazine dedicated entirely to USC Upstate and shares stories of its 50th Anniversary and its exciting future.

October 9, 2017:
RJ Rockers Debuts USC Upstate Beer
  • Time: 5 - 8 p.m. Location: RJ Rockers, 226-A W Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29306
  • Description: Join us for a private party at RJ Rockers when the USC Upstate beer will be debuted. Enjoy heavy hor d’oeuvres, live music and a visit by Sparty, the USC Upstate mascot.

October 11, 2017:
Time Capsule Event
  • Time: 4:30 - 6 p.m.
  • Location: John C. Stockwell Administration Building 
  • Description: Step back in time when the time capsule, housed in the cornerstone of John C. Stockwell Administration Building since 1969, is opened and its contents are displayed. A reception will follow.
  • Admission: Open to the public.
October 12, 2017:
Student Event - Sparty's Birthday Bash
  • Time: 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Location: Soccer Stadium
  • Description: Join Dr. Kelly during Investiture Week to celebrate USC Upstate and Sparty’s birthday with a Special Fireworks Display, video messaging, dessert bar, novelties, Bruster’s Ice Cream truck and more.
  • Admission: USC Upstate students
October 13, 2017:
Chancellor Brendan Kelly’s Investiture Ceremony
  • Time: 10:30 a.m.
  • Location: Main Quad, located behind the Stockwell Administration Building
  • Description: The USC Upstate Board of Trustees and USC President Pastides will host the formal investiture of Chancellor Kelly, the fourth chancellor of USC Upstate.
  • Admission: Open to all USC Upstate staff, faculty, students, alumni, and invited guests.

*USC Upstate offices will be closed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Classes may be canceled at the discretion of individual faculty members.

Picnic following the investiture
  • Time: 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Location: Main Quad, located behind the Stockwell Administration Building
  • Description: Enjoy lunch under the tent following Chancellor Kelly’s Investiture
  • Admission: Open to all USC Upstate staff, faculty, students, alumni, and invited guests
October 14, 2017:
USC Upstate Gospel Choir Meet & Greet Reception
  • Time: Noon - 3 p.m.
  • Location: Sansbury Campus Life Center Ballroom
  • Description: Former members of the USC Upstate Gospel Choir and supporters will enjoy a reception followed by rehearsal
  • Admission: Former members of the USC Upstate Gospel Choir and supporters

October 15, 2017:
USC Upstate Gospel Choir Reunion Concert
  • Time: 4 p.m.
  • Location: Cornerstone Baptist Church, 700 S Converse St, Spartanburg, SC 29306
  • Description: Previous members of the USC Upstate Gospel Choir will perform a premier concert
  • Admission: Open to the public

Enjoy an inspirational and powerful concert performed by the USC Upstate Gospel Choir featuring many alumni choir members who are now music directors, choir directors and pastors. The Gospel Choir was organized in 1979 by students seeking a way to honor African-American culture at USC Upstate. 

December 12, 2017:
Spartanburg Jaycees Christmas Parade

6:30 p.m. in downtown Spartanburg

Attend the Christmas Parade and watch for the USC Upstate float. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors will ride on the float spreading holiday and Spartan cheer. Cheerleaders, student athletes and Sparty (the mascot) will walk the parade route passing out game schedules, candy, etc.

December 19, 2017:
December Graduation

7 p.m. at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, 385 North Church Street, Spartanburg

Nearly 500 students receive their degrees in one of the finest theaters in the country. Each graduate receives a commemorative 50th Anniversary medallion for the tassel.

February 10, 2018:
Homecoming 2018

 G.B. Hodge Center, 365 Hodge Drive, Spartanburg

Join the USC Upstate Alumni Association for an afternoon of reminiscing and socializing while we cheer on the men and women's basketball teams.

Founders’ Day 2018
