George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business and Economics

The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics is as impressive as the vitae of its namesake who is regarded as an entrepreneurial legend. Located in the heart of downtown Spartanburg, “The George” provides a world-class facility where future business leaders and entrepreneurs are cultivated. Its close proximity to many business headquarters affords internship opportunities with downtown businesses, easier access to community and business leaders willing to share their knowledge and experience as guest lecturers, and a location for seeding and incubating entrepreneurial ideas. Rotating exhibits from The Johnson Collection beautifully incorporate Mr. Johnson’s love and appreciation for art. Mr. Johnson and his wife, Susan (Susu) Phifer Johnson are passionate philanthropists committed to enhancing the educational environment and cultural vibrancy of their hometown, state, and region.

Also housed in The George are the University’s GreenHouse Business Incubator and Child Protection Training Center. The GreenHouse, located on the third floor of The George, is dedicated to aiding in pre-start-up and incubation support of small business.

The Child Protection Training Center, one of only four centers of its kind nationally, provides exceptional training for child protection workers both locally and nationally that allows them to improve their skills in detecting, reporting and responding to child abuse and neglect.
