Aug 16 Racial Equity Index Highlights Opportunities for Spartanburg Community
Commissioned by the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project, the USC Upstate Metropolitan Studies Institute (MSI) and Dr. Kathleen Brady presented data to the audience of campus and community leaders regarding the influential role race plays in predicting outcomes related to health, wellness, social and economic mobility and mortality.

Aug 28 USC Upstate Welcomes New International Students
The USC Upstate Center for International Studies and the Office of the Provost have confirmed 27 newly admitted international students from 18 different countries for the Fall 2018 semester. In total, Spartan Nation has 80 international students representing 36 countries from around the world. Aug 31 Survey Spotlights Spartanburg County LGBTQ Community
In collaboration with corporate and community partners, an interdisciplinary team of USC Upstate faculty researchers has produced a needs assessment of the LGBTQ community in Spartanburg County. Some notable highlights of the study included data supporting the increased need for workplace training on LGBTQ cultural competency, increased resources aligned with addressing depression and mental health within the LGBTQ community and the challenges of disclosing health and lifestyle information regarding sexual identity and orientation to health care providers.
