Dr. Araceli Hernández-Laroche

Dr. Araceli Hernández-Laroche is professor of Modern Languages, French Global Studies coordinator, and founding director of South Carolina Centro Latino (El Centro), the first university-based center in the state for the study of Hispanic & Latino cultures; its pillars are Latinx Interdisciplinary Studies & Civic Leadership and Mentorship, the Multilingual Public Humanities, and Translation & Community Interpreting. She serves on various boards such as the ACLU of SC, the Spartanburg Academic Movement, the LGBT Fund, and the Chapman Cultural Center. She has been recognized as the 2020 Career Woman of the Year by the Business & Professional Women of SC and the 2020 Inclusion Advocate of the Year by OneSpartanburg, Inc. Hernández-Laroche is recognized widely on campus for her commitment to public scholarship.
