Dr. Dave Damrel is an associate professor of Religion at the University of South Carolina Upstate with a Ph.D. in the history of religion from Duke University and a research focus on Islam in South and Southeast Asia. He regularly teaches classes on Comparative Religion, Asian Religious Traditions, Modern Islam, Religion Health and Healing, American Religious Diversity and more. In 2008 he received a Fulbright award to study and teach in Java, Indonesia, and in 2015 revisited Southeast Asia on a six-month research sabbatical in Borneo (Sarawak), Malaysia. His research centers on sacred space and contemporary Muslim thought and culture.
