"Many of the students that we're teaching in the Criminal Justice program go out to work in the field in the Upstate. What we're doing here directly impacts our community on the whole."

Dr. Michele Covington teaches courses on violence, policing, firearms, homeland security, research methods, and other areas related to criminal justice. An author and former law enforcement officer, Covington is a member of the Carnegie Community Engagement Task Force and the Physical Learning Environment Assessment Team. She recently created a series of courses on crime analysis and earned a Faculty Excellence in Service Award at USC Upstate. Covington earned a Ph.D. in Sociology with a Crime and Deviance concentration from the University of Central Florida. She has a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina, and a bachelor’s degree from Lander University.
