USC Upstate ’18 alumna Shawna Bynum serves as director of The Franklin School, a first-class child development center that opened in early 2019 in the city of Spartanburg’s Northside community. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Bynum moved to the Upstate with her family in 2005. She previously worked for Spartanburg County’s First Steps Head Start program and is a member of the Northside Development Group Advisory Committee. Bynum earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in child development and family studies from USC Upstate, and her Associate of Arts from Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, N.C.
