Rich is in his sixth year as assistant professor and designer at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He has Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Florida Atlantic University and California State University, Stanislaus, respectively. Rich has taught in Northern California, the Houston area and at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach Florida. His background includes extensive lighting for dance, concerts and churches, as well as experience in set design, stage management, theatrical makeup, speech, and directing/ teaching children’s theatre. Rich has directed One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Epic Proportions, Step On a Crack and Secret Passwords at USC Upstate. During the summers of 2003-2007, Rich directed the children’s summer theatre drama camp under the auspices of the Spartanburg Youth Theatre. In addition, he has directed Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs and The Fisherman and his Wife, traveling productions performed within the Spartanburg county library system. His experience in church lighting design includes his position as lighting designer for the Twin Living Christmas Trees and other church productions at First Baptist North Spartanburg. Rich is actively involved in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival as a respondent and has adjudicated with the Palmetto Dramatist Association and the National Thespian Society. A native Californian, Rich is devoted to his wife, Debbie and daughter, Emily.
