Biography:

Lee Neibert, Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of South Carolina Upstate, comes to Spartanburg from Oklahoma. Lee received his B.A. in English from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and worked professionally at Allenberry Playhouse before entering the graduate theatre program at Oklahoma State University. He received his M.A. in theatre from OSU and taught for 10 years at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, OK. During this time, Lee achieved the rank of Assistant Professor, and served the university as the Director of Theatre and Co-Chair of the Humanities Division (Fine Arts). The Oklahoma Speech, Theatre and Communications Association recognized Lee as the Ruth Arrington Outstanding College Theatre Educator in 2000. Also, Lee served as the Oklahoma Chair on the Regional Committee for Region VI of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. At SGU Lee directed over 20 productions and appeared in professional productions of King Lear and The Philadelphia Story in Oklahoma City. In 2007, Lee left SGU to pursue his MFA in Directing at the University of Oklahoma, where he directed 5 shows, including The Three Musketeers on the OU mainstage. He taught acting classes for the BFA majors at OU, and assisted in coordinating Irene Ryan and production entries for KCACTF. Lee also received the Harry Hoelscher Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in 2008 and the Rupel J. Jones Excellence in Directing award in 2009.  Lee, his wonderful wife Deana and their two cats, Oliver and Stella, are very excited to be part of the USC Upstate family and to be living in beautiful South Carolina. It has been a dream of theirs to relocate to the area and they cannot be more thankful and grateful for the chance to live this dream.
