Hanze University of Applied Sciences
In 1986, multiple local institutes merged to form Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS). It is now the largest vocational university in northern Netherlands with a student population of over 25,000 students and 2,700 employees. The main campus of 16 schools is located in Groningen but individual schools are located in Assen (technology), Leeuwarden (pop culture) and Amsterdam (dance).
The city of Groningen is the largest city located in northeastern Netherlands with a population of almost 200,000. The history of the city has been dated back to 3950 BC, but the first major settlement has been traced to the third century AD. The city serves as the metropolitan center for the region and has a number of museums, theaters and a bustling nightlife.
