USC Upstate Faculty-Led Study Abroad
Each year, USC Upstate faculty host short-term study abroad programs in various locations around the globe. These programs are high-impact and includes additional support for participants. The duration is typically between 10 days to 4 weeks and may include academic work before and/or after travel. For information specific to each program, please use the drop down menus below. Want a classroom with a view of 100 miles of prestine coastline? Want to combine the southern Spainish sun with language and culture learning? Join Professor Maria Monteso in Alicante, Spain for the trip of a lifetime! You'll spend a full month immersed in all Spain has to offer from their amazing flavors to the spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. The program offers 6 credit hours including a Spanish language class taught by the University of Alicante for learners of any level and SPAN U250 or U350 taught by Prof. Monteso.
President or Prime Minister? Senate or Parliament? Governments, including democracies, may look vastly different across the globe each and with their own strengths and weaknesses. Explore these differences and gain global understanding of law, government, and politics by joining Dr. Allison Ellison on a multi-city program within the United Kingdom. Stay in London, England; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Cardiff, Wales while exploring important political sites in each region. Students will receive 3 credits by either enrolling in POLI U355: Culture and Politics Abroad or PLAW: Prelaw Studies Abroad.
Is there a better classroom than the natural beauty of Costa Rica? Very few places on earth allow you to be in a rainforest, on an active volcano, and on the beach all within a few hours. With this as your backdrop, join Prof. Hannah Terpack as you help build global experience into your professional resume! Students will enroll in UNIV U399: Are You Spartan Ready? for 1 credit hours during the spring semester as part of the program. Prof. Terpack is the Director of the Office of Career Management at USC Upstate and is an expert on career preparedness. Students will gain global competency and the skills needed to use that competency to assist your career development.

Join Assistant Professor of German, Dr. Alex Lorenz, on a cultural and language-learning tour of Berlin, Germany! This 2-week program includes a German language course for learners of any level and a German culture course (GERM U250 or U350). Learn outside the classroom as multiple activites, site visits, and tours happen throughout the program.
Have nursing skills and will travel! Take everything you've learned as a USC Upstate nursing student and make a difference in Ecuador. Open to upper-level nursing majors only, join Dr. Kristi Miller and Prof. Ashlan Burns on the experience of a lifetime. Serve communities by providing health clinics and gain real world experience which may be reflected on your resume.
Join Dr. Emily Kofoed and Dr. David Wallace in one of the longest running partnerships USC Upstate offers! Travel to Washington, D.C. to partner with students from Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal in completing a multimedia project. Use the U.S. capital as your classroom as you learn cross-cultural skills relevant to your future career. The program includes 3 credit hours though enrollment in JOUR U398.
Join Amanda Karls in exploring one of the most important topics of the present day: enviromental sustainability. Receive hands-on experience from those at the forefront of this issue within our region by visiting F. D. Roosevelt State Park and working beside the park's employees. Students will stay in the park's cabins for the duration of the program.
