The BA in Theatre is designed to prepare students as Theatre generalists with a concentration in either performance or production, combining history, theory and practice to enable students to compete in the professional world or to move easily toward a graduate program.
The curriculum in the major requires a common core of courses in theory and history, while allowing a choice of specialty in either performance or production. A rich laboratory of performance and production opportunities are provided through four main stage and countless studio productions each semester. Students design, direct, stage manage, act and act as dramaturges for a variety of styles and genre.
Students have been employed at Disney, Universal Studios, Jenny Wiley Music Theatre, theatres in New York and Los Angeles, Santa Fe Opera Company, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Greenville Little Theatre, The Spartanburg Little Theatre, Palmetto Light and Sound, and professional regional theatres, among others.
The Upstate of South Carolina has many venues for theatre majors and internship possibilities. They include:
- The Rose Theatre in London, England
- The Warehouse Theatre and Centrestage in Greenville
- The Chapman Cultural Center
- The Spartanburg Little Theatre
