RN to MSN

THE RN TO MSN PATHWAY

The RN-MSN Pathway is a unique opportunity for the RN-BSN students to begin their pursuit of an MSN degree while completing the BSN degree at USC Upstate. The RN-MSN Pathway is appropriate for students under the following conditions.

  • The student completes 26 credits outlined in the RN-BSN track.
    • This excludes two special topics courses (6 credits)
    • And includes 6 graduate credits for a total of 32 credit hours.
  • The student will take no more than 6 graduate credit hours while enrolled as an undergraduate student.
  • The graduate courses may only be taken in the final semester.
  • The graduate courses may not take the student into overload.
  • Interested students must have a 3.0 institutional GPA or higher to enroll in any graduate course.
  • Before continuing the graduate program, these students will be awarded their BSN degree after completing the 32 credit hours and all criteria required for the baccalaureate degree.
  • If these students choose to pursue the MSN degree in one of our graduate programs the Registrar will make a separate request for the graduate courses (up to 6 credits) to count toward the MSN degree.

Financial Aid Considerations: Undergraduate students who are enrolled in graduate courses are not eligible for Pell Grants. However, these students can apply for federal loans if they take at least 6 credit hours.

Continuance in the Graduate Program: If these students choose to continue in the graduate program, they must submit a graduate application to the university.
