Teacher Education at Sumter
Thank you for your interest in the University of South Carolina Upstate Teacher Education program on the USC Sumter Campus. We invite you to become a potential teacher candidate in our nationally accredited, highly regarded program.
Teacher Education courses offered at the USC Sumter campus are at the junior and senior level. USC Upstate has a 2 + 2 agreement with USC Sumter, allowing students to complete two years of general education classes toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. The USC Upstate Teacher Education Program on the USC Sumter campus is designed for those individuals who have completed 60 credit hours of general education courses and have successfully passed the Praxis Core Test (reading, writing and mathematics).
Students who already have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education may pursue teacher certification through a second baccalaureate degree from the USC Upstate School of Education. Under unique circumstances, a student may be classified as “certification only” and complete the requirements for certification without receiving a second degree.
We partner with quality local school districts to prepare teachers to effectively demonstrate developmentally appropriate practices in real-world classrooms. Additionally, we now offer USC Upstate graduate degree programs in Early Childhood and Elementary Education on the USC Sumter campus via distance education technologies. Our talented faculty look forward to working with you!
