Career Development Competencies
Are you Spartan Ready?
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) there are eight critical skills all employers want. Below is the full list, a description of each, and suggested steps to develop them if you haven't already. Click a competency to see additional information including how you can develop your own skills. We encourage faculty to ingrain these skills in their courses, students to actively develop them before graduation and staff to support students along the way. Here's to making sure you're Spartan Ready by graduation!
Description Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization. |

Description Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization. |

Description Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information. |

Description Demonstrate the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills required to equitably engage and include people from different local and global cultures. Engage in anti-racist practices that actively challenge the systems, structures, and policies of racism. |

Description Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals. |
