Ana Maria Ruhl
Graduating in 1997 from USC Upstate, Ana was a double major in both interdisciplinary studies and history, receiving her disciplines in both political science and music. She was a part of the first group of students to declare interdisciplinary studies as their majors.
Having been a focused student while at the university, she managed to squeeze in a few extracurricular activities. Her leadership roles ranged from being chapter president, state vice-president and national executive committee student member-alternate for the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. She also had the rare honor of being a part of the inception of the Hispanic Awareness Association, along with other students that promoted Hispanic culture on campus. She was also a participant of the History Club and the Omicron Delta Kappa Society.
During her enrollment at Upstate, two professors left a lasting impression upon her life; those being Dr. Andy Crosland, (English professor) and Dr. Jim Brown (History professor). She sends her thanks to them for the challenging and high expectations placed on her, especially in analyzing and critiquing her research papers that paid off in the long run.
She is currently a reporter for The Royalist, a Web-based magazine that focuses on royalty around the world. Her articles on the latest news in royalty can be found on Ana Maria's Royal Perspective blog which was launched on The Royalist Web site earlier this year.
Mrs. Ruhl enjoys singing, ice skating, playing the piano, crocheting, jewelry designing, studying foreign languages, and most of all, spending time with her husband of seven years, Michael L. Ruhl. He is a 1997 graduate of USC Columbia. She gives back to her community in many ways including volunteering with the Gamma Beta Phi Alumni Association. With all her accomplishments, Ana feels that her biggest achievements are yet to come!
