Purchase TicketsThis year, USC Upstate will celebrate the 12th anniversary of the University's Arbor Day Celebration, which is held annually on South Carolina Arbor Day, the first Friday in December. 

Our featured speaker this year will be Rick Darke.

Rick Darke heads Rick Darke, LLC, a Pennsylvania-based consulting firm focused on landscape ethics, photography and contextual design. Darke’s work blends art, ecology and cultural geography in the design and management of living landscapes. Projects include parks, scenic byways, transportation corridors, corporate and collegiate campuses, conservation developments, post-industrial and historic brownfields, botanic gardens and residential landscapes. His many books including The American Woodland Garden: Capturing the Spirit of the Deciduous ForestThe Encyclopedia of Grasses for Livable Landscapes and The Living Landscape: Designing for Beauty and Biodiversity in the Home Garden co-authored with Doug Tallamy. Ricky McAbee, president of Roebuck Wholesale Nursery has named the "Beacon Oak" as our community's  "Noble Tree of the Year" for 2015. The Beacon Oak will be planted at several city parks as well as the Susan Jacobs Arboretum on the morning of Arbor Day. Presentations and a luncheon will follow on the USC Upstate campus.
