Services

Currently enrolled USC Upstate students have access to free, unlimited, and confidential counseling services. Counseling services offers, individual, couples, and group counseling as well as medication management and off-campus referrals if indicated. Abbreviated testing services are also available for a fee. The counseling process may help improve your academic achievements and personal well-being.

Counseling Services offers students confidential support through:

  • Individual and Couples Counseling: To help students deal with an array of personal and interpersonal issues including stress, anxiety, depression, grief and relationship issues.
  • Distance Counseling: Distance Counseling is available to all currently enrolled USC Upstate students. Distance Counseling is conducted with one of our trained and licensed counselors over a private and secure web-based platform. To utilize this service, you will need access to a device with a webcam and a microphone.   • Group Counseling: A group environment where students may gain support and understanding from peers.
  • Crisis Intervention: To offer students with urgent emotional distress immediate assistance.
  • Psychiatric Services: To support students who may benefit from medication management.

  • Consultation

What You Can Do

If you or someone you know is considering harming themselves or someone else, please call 911 immediately. If you’re concerned about a USC Upstate student, call us at 864-503-5195. We can help you determine what to do and how to help the student.

Recognize the Warning Signs:

Express concern, listen, avoid criticizing and recommend a student to counseling if you notice a change in behavior that indicates distress or emotional trouble:

  • Increased alcohol or drug use
  • Withdrawal from family, friends and society
  • Decrease in quality of schoolwork
  • Infrequent class attendance
  • Significant changes in personal hygiene
  • Excessive weight gain or weight loss
  • Comments that suggest thoughts about hopelessness or self-harm

How to Schedule an Appointment

You can contact Counseling Services between 8:00 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Fridays between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Please call us at 864-503-5195. Our offices are located in the John M. Rampey Jr. Center for Health and Counseling Services Building, 490 Hodge Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Prepare to share your contact information, including your name, student ID number, date of birth, and phone number. Students new to counseling may also schedule via the MyHealth Patient Portal.

*Please note that individuals who do not show or fail to cancel with at least 24-hour notice for a counseling, psychiatry or testing appointment will be charged a $25 fee. This fee must be paid prior to scheduling your next appointment. Fees may be paid using link above.
