Dean of Students Office
In addition to advocating for student issues, the Dean supervises the University Health Services, University Counseling Services, The Office of Disability and Accessibility Services, the Student Conduct obligations and the student emergency response (CARE) team. The Dean of Students is a primary ombudsperson for the student community, advising students through their grievances and issues.
USC Upstate Codes of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity
The University of South Carolina Upstate is an academic community preserved through mutual respect and trust of the individuals who learn, teach and work within it.
The Code of Student Conduct establishes parameters for maintaining campus order, wellness and civility. In summary, the code activates when a report is submitted. An investigation is completed about the report’s information. If evidence exists of a violation, accused students or student organizations choose an informal resolution or a formal Conduct Council hearing. In a hearing, a 50.1% level of evidence determines a violation. Consequences are assigned if the violation is proven.
The Code of Academic Integrity establishes parameters for maintaining classwork honesty. In summary, the code activates when a report is submitted. The accused student communicates with the instructor about the report’s information. If the student and faculty member reach an agreement, the case concludes. If the faculty member and student cannot reach an agreement, then an Honor Council hearing may occur. In a hearing, a 50.1% level of evidence determines a violation. Consequences are assigned if the violation is proven.

Upstate adheres to a living-learning environment that is free of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or relationship violence. In summary, procedures activate when a report is submitted to the Office of Institutional Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement. The Office of Institutional Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement investigates the report’s information. If evidence of a violation exists, a Sexual Misconduct Hearing Board hearing may occur. In a hearing, a 50.1% level of evidence determines a violation. Consequences are assigned if the violation is proven.

CARE Team
The Upstate CARE (Campus Assessment, Referral, and Evaluation ) Team supports the safety, health and well-being of all students, faculty and staff. Its goal is to provide a structured, positive method for addressing student behaviors that may adversely affect the community and other students, or may involve mental health and safety issues.
