Welcome to the University of South Carolina Upstate! We are excited that you have chosen Upstate for your education. On behalf of the Housing and Residential Life staff, I am thrilled to welcome you to campus housing. It is our privilege to play a role in your life over the next four years. We hope that you’ll soon find your place on campus and come to view the Upstate community as your family.
Living on campus places you at the center of it all. You have easy access to campus resources, your professors, classes, sporting events, and great campus activities. Within your hall or apartment building, you have the ability to connect with your peers and meet others from varying walks of life. Very likely, some of the people you connect with in campus housing will be the same people you still consider friends years from now. Living on campus also allows you to live where you learn. The Tree Houses have multiple study rooms. You can make an appointment for tutoring or use one of the rooms to meet with a study group. In addition, the Resident Adviser staff provides several academic success related programs each semester.
The Housing and Residential Life staff is here to help you. We know this is a very exciting and scary time in your life. Your Resident Adviser is one of your best resources on campus. Your RA has an understanding of what you may be feeling or handling as you make your transition. I would also encourage you to meet the assistant director in your community. Our assistant directors are Master’s level professional staff who care deeply about their students and are here to help you succeed.
I would encourage you to make efforts to get involved on campus. We truly have something for everyone. For residential students, the Leadership and Service Learning Community provides a unique and exciting way for you to get involved on campus while impacting social change. The Campus Life Center can also help you find student organizations that match your interests and passions.
As you adjust to life on campus, if you need help, have questions, or simply need someone to listen, do not hesitate to contact Housing and Residential Life. You can reach us at 864-503-5422 or via email.
Have a great year!
