I am Tyshaun Jamel Aljuan James, an 18-year-old freshman majoring in Secondary Education and Pre-Law with a concentration in history so that I can one day become a history teacher and lawyer. I look up to Barack Obama who has taught me that hard work pays off in the end with hard work and determination. My favorite scripture is Isiah 54:17 “no weapon that is formed against me shall prosper”.

If I were to be elected as FCP, I would make sure that my freshman class felt as a part of Upstate as everyone else. Though we are the newcomers in the family, I want us to be able to make a statement, to make our print on USCU. I plan to give the freshman class a voice and to build more of a family culture with one another.

Scout Hoffmeier

Major: Business

As Freshman Class President, I aim to be the voice to those who feel their voices blend in with others. As Class President, I stand as an advocate for the needs of the Freshman class, in and out of the classroom. I strive to be a friend, an ally, a voice and a leader to all who boldly or silently need someone.

My goal for the Class of 2023 and my position as Freshman Class President is to enhance our involvement and voice within Our University, as well as, Our community. As a student athlete myself, I strive to unite athletes with students in kindness and love and diminish the “double standard” phenomenon. As your President, I can guarantee a press for change of the “Freshman” stereotype. The Class of 2023 will be that change. The change that one day at a time will change lives and as time progresses, empower each of us to change the world. It starts with you, it starts with me, it starts with us.

As a team, we will unite as one class, one family, one unified group of individuals who are willing to place others before themselves, if it means bettering the world around us. I will embody the goal for our class: Leave Upstate better than when we arrived here. As our slogan states, “The honor is to serve.” It would be an honor to stand with you, class of 2023, as your Freshman Class President.

If I were elected freshman class president I would have events called Freshmen Friday where I do events for only my class so that way we can get to know one another and socialize more. I would also love to get feedback from my freshmen class by during surveys to see what we can improve to make the school better.

I’m running Freshman Class president because as a new student it’s crucial to have someone there to lead you in the right direction and help make your future and present success worth waking up for, not just for you, but for those surrounding you since this new chapter is a big step.

For my platform I only have four key points.

Organization: having as many people involved as possible but also making sure they are the right person for the job. As well putting more time into organizing school activities so everything can go as smoothly as possible.

Straightforwardness: “telling it how it is” making sure everyone knows what’s going on and not keeping anyone in the dark.

Online outreach: our school has a large online presence already, but it would be nice to be able to expand upon it. For example, personally reaching out to students via social media and getting their views on certain topics or using online polls.

Having fun:  My last point is to be able to have fun. College is supposed to be some of the best years of our lives, and no one wants to have to spend these years not having fun.
