Jump Start Summer Bridge Program

Jump Start Summer Bridge is a 4-week program that supports recent high school graduates and students completing their first year of college. The program allows students to earn college credit while learning academic competencies such as time management and study skills. Participants will also develop support systems that foster an increased sense of belonging and promote faster progression toward graduation.

Dates

Classes meet on
July 8 – August 1, 2024

  • Exams and final projects will be due by August 9.
  • No Friday activities.

Times

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

  • Lunch provided.
  • All-day attendance is mandatory.
  • Students with unexcused absences will be asked to pay back their scholarship money.

  • Session A is for recent high school graduates. These students will enroll in a 3-credit-hour first-year experience course and participate in a math refresher course to prepare them to be successful in their general education math class in their first year of college. The class will be in the morning, and the math refresher will be in the afternoon. Lunch programming will provide opportunities to build support networks, understand campus resources, and develop a sense of belonging.

    Eligibility

    Recent high school graduates who demonstrate academic need.

  • Session B is for continuing students completing their first year in college who either did not earn math credit or did not complete ENGL 102. These students will enroll in MATH 121 or ENGL 102. Additionally, both current first-year cohorts will complete a 1-credit-hour study skills class. Students will attend study hall in the afternoon with an embedded expert learner trained to help students transfer study skills to the academic content. Lunch programming will provide opportunities to build support networks, understand campus resources, and develop a sense of belonging.

Q: What are the costs?
A: Students accepted to the program will have minimum out-of-pocket costs. We will cover your tuition, fees, and books.

Q: Do I have to be a USC Upstate student?
A: You do not have to be a current or incoming USC Upstate student. However, if you are not, you must apply as a non-degree student for the summer.

Q: Is tutoring mandatory?
A: Yes! Tutoring and study hall are built into the program, and it is required for you to stay for those activities.

Q: What if I have summer vacation?
A: Please do not plan any vacation for July 8-August 1! This program requires attendance every day!
