Decisions regarding eligibility for unemployment are made by the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW). SCDEW processes all unemployment claims.
If an employee is unable to work or has a reduction in hours due to the Governor’s directive to close the campus, they may qualify for unemployment benefits even if they are still employed with the university. Employees may file an unemployment claim online. During this emergency, all unemployment claims received are being responded to on an expedited basis. Additionally, SCDEW has provided a FAQ resource to answer questions regarding unemployment claims as it relates to COVID-19.
**Please note: The university only provides SCDEW requested information regarding the lack of work and does not make any decisions regarding the approval or disqualification of unemployment benefits.
